Biggest Expansion in gTLDs Approved for Implementation
On June 26, 2008, ICANN announced that it is working on a plan, slated for approval early 2009, that will allow creation of additional top level domain name registries, in addition to those general ones presently available e.g. .com, .org, .ca.
President and CEO of ICANN, Dr Paul Twomey, was quoted as saying “It’s a massive increase in the ‘real estate’ of the internet” which this writer predicts will increase value of domain names in original registries, and create more more ground-level opportunities for domain name investors.
