Despite the fact that Twitter has more than 32 million users, has received massive publicity from both celebrities and government, and produced remarkable results for companies like Dell and Zappos, many business executives still don’t “get” Twitter.

Remote or Local Assistant? : Productivity501

There has been a lot of interest in virtual assistants. The idea sounds great.  You hire someone to do the work you need remotely.  Since you don’t have to be in the same city, state or country, you are free to choose the most cost effective assistant from anywhere in the world. On the other hand, there are some significant advantages in hiring someone locally. There are some advantages for both types of assistants…

60% of Twitter Users Quit Within the First Month

We’re hearing some pretty amazing statistics about TwitterTwitter reviews these days: growth from February 2008 to February 2009 was reportedly 1382%, with the incline increasing yet further in recent months.

But like many social networks, it seems many people lose steam with the service. Stat tracking firmNielsen reports today that a full 60% of users who sign up fail to return the following month. And in the 12 months “pre-Oprah”, retention rates were even lower: only 30% returned the next month. That’s good news, to some degree: retention rates have increased over time.

This is a shocking statistic, and yet it’s not abnormal for human beings to use only a fraction of their brain capacity.

RELEASE ME: How To Write A Killer Press Release

heather-oconnor1 Hats off to talented writer and author Heather M. O’Connor of MerlinWrites who presented “RELEASE ME: How To Write A Killer Press Release” to a capacity crowd today at Writers Circle Durham Region today.

Anyone who has has the pleasure of reading Heather’s material will attest to her talent with pen and words, and today was no different. Heather shared with us her ‘Checklist for Success’. We learned:

  • What news is, and how to make it more interesting
  • How to write the lead and make the editors love your press release
  • How and where to distribute our press release distribution

I was surprised to hear that $500 was the standard rate for a press release as I have always had a sweet deal on them – thanks Sis! Although I enjoy contributing to the creative, in my mind the investment of having you do them is well worthwhile since I’ve far more ROI from your press releases then any advertising I’ve ever been involved in – except TV, but that was years ago. Need to get attention? Invest in a press release. Invest in href=”http://www.MerlinWrites.com”>MerlinWrites. You’ll be glad you did!

Watch www.LUNCHINARS.com for Heather’s next performance! For those who haven’t been reading, LUNCHINARS are lunch time seminars you take from the comfort of your own office. LUNCHINARS are interactive and easy and coming to your computer on March 24, 2009. Why not feed your body and your business at lunch?

Choosing a brand/company/domain name just got easier!

Everyone knows that when you’re selecting a brand/company/domain name, you need to do due dilligence; domain searches, nuans searches, trademark searches and of course the ‘market-ability” of the brand e.g. that it’s short, memorable, easy to say and spell, and ideally sorts higher alphabetically.

With the recent popularity/success of social marketing spaces/tools, you need to check if your brand or company name is available in the most popular social media spaces (at time of writing) e.g. ustream, twitter, friendfeed12seconds, blogger, etc. and this just got easier thanks to UsernameCheck.com which searches 50 social media spaces which a click of the mouse.

If would be great if UsernameCheck.com would allow one-button registration too, but alas, I guess we’ll have to do manually for now. Let me know if you’d like help with that, or if you feel other social media spaces and/or tools should be on the ‘must do list’.
