Duplicate Content Issues?

Today, Google webmaster tools has launched a new message alert to let site owners know when a particular URL doesn’t appear because Google sees it as duplicate of a URL on a different domain. In the blog post announcing the feature and in an in-depth help topic, they provide details on how they identify duplicate clusters of content and choose a “canonical” version of that cluster to display in search results.

A ‘Twitter 101′ Lesson

A short series of posts designed to help newbies understand some social media strategy behind the professional use of Twitter via Social Media Today.

Twitter Works for Whitby Writer

Heather M. O’Connor, Whitby, Ontario writer writes…

Social Media is about knowing where who you want to talk to hangs out. For writers, this is Twitter. I’m not a texter — I don’t even have a cellphone. Nonetheless, I plunged into this 140-character world ready for action.

Equipped with the basics thanks to my Social Media Circles course, I proceeded last February to set up a profile and build a following. In just one month, I added over 800 writers, editors, agents and publishers to my network, gained 200 followers, and was added to 15 lists.

Fast forward to today. I’m now following 2000 industry members. I have almost 800 followers. I’m listed on 37 lists as an author and a writer. I have connected and networked meaningfully with lots of agents, authors and publishers, and found a treasure trove of writer-specific resources.

I even had a lighthearted, but extended, #sixwordnovel exchange with Penguin USA that I plan to leverage when pitching my novel. Here’s how it started:

@penguinusa: The Year Penguin Published My Book #sixwordnovels (this one’s dedicated to all our future writers!)

@heathermoconnor: @penguinusa #sixwordnovels Great novel. No agent. Publish me?

Twitter has also helped me set up a all-expenses-paid weekend in Stratford as a journalist. Is Twitter working for me? Oh, yeah!

(Leaving for Stratford Friday morning at 8:30.)

And make that 84 lists. *BLUSH*
