Durham Region Social Events ($)
Just posted on this facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/groups/DurhamRegionSocialEvents/) had 514 members when I posted a non-profit event recently, then I received notification that my post was considered advertising and as such $20 was payable? I wrote back with apology — had no idea as member that rules had changed and left the group *eeks*.
If money’s not an object for you, you may want to try this out as local Stephanie Herrera is broadcasting the events via video on Durham Region Social Events’ Facebook page.
Me, I don’t pay for community advertising and left the group to avoid any future embarrassment, and now this group has 513 members.
Awesome Performance by Ontario Philharmonic last night!
Music sure does soothe the soul as does seeing so many dear and wonderful people.
Ontario Philharmonic who’s sold out “Let’s Tango” performance was absolutely magical and enchanting at The Regent Theatre last night — especially Leslie Newman on flute.
Thanks to Clarington Center for the Arts for the beautiful hand made wine charm – a nice keepsake for the event, and Chuck Buyers for the wine talk, and of course all the wineries for the yummy wine! What a wonderful evening!
Attendees urged to give generously to new “Art of Transition Culture Fund”…
by Durham Community Foundation. All financial gifts will be invested, and the returns granted to charitable arts and culture organizations — the first being The Ontario Philharmonic who will receive the first grant — 50% from the proceeds of the launch party. The other 50% of proceeds from the launch party go to the fund, and as the principal stays invested, it creates a lasting legacy for arts in Durham Region. My social media challenge?
I would challenge the 800 in attendance, and anyone else who cares about art and culture in Durham Region to share this with their friends using social media and urge them to give. Since the average person has 126 people on Facebook — we would challenge 100,800 people together, and if 4% of those people to donate $25 each and we’d reach the goal of $1,000,000 which would yield grants of $80,000 per year. Hmmm…
Will YOU take the challenge?

I wasn’t sure what celebrating “the animal human bond” meant exactly but…
…I wasn’t disappointed, and really enjoyed this one-hour multicultural performance @Bowmanville Zoo. Have you bought a ticket yet? If not, best buy your ticket now. Show only runs until Jan.2.
If you did see the show, what was your favourite performer or performance?
In my eyes, the LION was clearly King, but the TIGER looked so hungry and looked right through me, but the ELEPHANT is just too cute. Then there is the MONKEY that pulled the cord to change acts and the most WHITE HORSES prancing around to the dreamiest music. <g>. If we’re friends on Facebook, you’ll know which one I picked.

Have you seen “The Animal’s Gift” yet?
Come celebrate the holiday season with the animals from Bowmanville Zoo as they present, “The Animal’s Gift” (Dec.2-Jan.11, 2011). This live animal theatrical performance is a multicultural event that displays the historical relationships amongst humans and animals throughout this festive period.
Travel back in time through the holiest of seasons, as seen through the eyes and felt in the hearts of the animals of our planet. As the world tenderly sleeps, the wild creatures of field and forest come forward to rejoice and celebrate in the wonder of this festive season.
From December 6th, 2010 – January 2nd, 2011 the Bowmanville Zoo will open its gates for this special 90 minute live animal presentation.
Come visit and share with our animals their gifts to us.
