What is a false positive?

E-mail

In programs used to filter spam, a false positive is a legitimate message mistakenly marked as spam. This can happen because the domain or network the person is sending from is used to send a lot of spam (such as hotmail), because their computer, or a computer they use is infected with a virus, or because their message contains content which looks like spam, or uses common spam words (like “viagra”).
