Outsourcing vs. In-House

To outsource or not to outsource, that is the question. Entrepreneurs have many options when building a team. Sometimes you may need to hire a full-time resource, other times you may wish to contract out different functions within your organization, like payroll or other roles that you might not need full-time from the very start.

  1. What is the difference between in-house and outsourcing?

#Entrepreneurs and #BusinessOwners that want something done have two choices; have it done in-house – by people employed by their company, or outsource it – to people not employed by their company.

  2. What are common reasons entrepreneurs and business owners choose to outsource?

#Entrepreneurs and #businessowners outsource because the work can be done better, faster or cheaper by someone not employed by the company and because it allows them to focus on core business functions?

  3. What types of functions lend themselves to successful outsourcing?

Highly repetitive tasks, functions that require highly skilled or executive expertise, and specialized knowledge #entrepreneurs and #businessowners don’t have in-house are best outsourced.

  4. What are the most common outsourcing mistakes entrepreneurs make when outsourcing?

Outsourcing can be problematic when #entrepreneurs
don’t know enough (to choose the right vendor or manage the work), go cheap, don’t factor-in time & costs to communicate – especially when you outsource offshore, and security.

  5. What types of functions should never be outsourced?

#Entrepreneurs and #businessowners should never outsource their core competencies or key leadership roles e.g. those in charge of culture, training, firing, succession or training.

  6. When should entrepreneurs consider bringing outsourced functions back in-house?

#Entrepreneurs and #businessowners should consider #insourcing (bringing outsourced functions back in-house)when vendor poses reputational risk, clients don’t want it outsourced or as a strategy to control vendor behaviour.
