Stop Copy/Paste Posts

Facebook

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of copy-and-paste posts on Facebook, like privacy notices, messages about beating the algorithm, and urgent requests.

Most people mean well when they share these, but copying and pasting can sometimes cause problems:

  1. It can spread misinformation. Many viral posts are old, not true, or lack important context.
  2. It can get around safety controls. If the original post is taken down for being misleading or harmful, your copied version might still spread.
  3. It can affect your account’s health. Repeating the same text, especially in different groups, can look like spam to the platform.

If you want to support a message or cause, here are better ways to do it:

  • Share the original post so any updates or removals will apply to what you shared.
  • Add a sentence or two in your own words about why it matters to you.
Include a link to a reliable source if you can.
  • I’m curious: what’s the most common copy-and-paste post you’ve seen lately?
