A webring (or web ring) is a collection of similarly themed websites connected in a circular structure — a traffic building technique made popular in the 1990s by amateur websites.
Webrings are managed on a central website and are managed by a moderators responsible for:
- adding/removing pages to the web ring website and
- supplying web code that participants can add to have the webring widget appear on their website.
When a visitor sees the webring widget on a site, they click to go to the next website in the web ring. By selecting next (or previous) repeatedly, the user will eventually reach the website they started at.
