What is a hero?

Thanks for volunteering!

"I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people." Maya AngelouI couldn’t agree more with these wise words Maya Angelou shared, and today I honour my Mother Jean Reid who is one of the many heros I am honoured to know.  As long as I can remember she has been a volunteer —  at our church, our school, and with Girl Guides of Canada for over 25 years!

Did you know that December 5th is International Volunteer Day?

In 1985, United Nations Volunteers founded International Volunteer Day, a global celebration of volunteers which takes place every year on December 5. The mandate is to shine a light on the impact of volunteer efforts everywhere who are leading social change around the world.

Who do you know that deserves recognition?

Just as every year on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we take time celebrate those that serve(d) for our freedom, I challenge you to take a moment today to remember all the volunteers who’ve served and made a difference in your world.  Although they don’t do it for recognition, I’m sure it will make their day!

Thanks for volunteering!
