Canadian Retailers Need To Innovate

shopping cartMost Canadian retailers did not embrace websites when the the Internet allowed websites for businesses in 1995 because they wanted people to come to their store, and most did.

We launched the first online shopping mall in Canada certified by the Royal Bank of Canada in late nineties, and retailers still chose not to innovate, because they still wanted people to come to their store. Some people did, but many early adopters had started tipping their toes in buying some things online, especially when Amazon came along and made it super easy and convenient.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, many retailers failed because they’d not innovated, while others were able to up their ecommerce game with help from government funding, and did it well enough to retain their dwindling customer base., more people every day were shifting to buying Amazon — the number #1 retailer in Canada.

When trade war talks began, causing huge incertainty for businesses and customers, although I would like to think that Canadian Retailers have benefited by resurgence of Canada Pride and people’s wish to “Buy Canadian” are they making it easy yet?

Nope. This shopper turned to Amazon — the #1 online shopping mall in Canada” and clicked on “SHOP CANADA PRODUCTS” and found 306 items, so I decided to make a list called Shop at Home Canada to make it easier for Canadian shoppers like me to find Canadian Made Products because it’s pretty clear, Canadian Retailers are not doing it… still.
